- Let the Beauty of Jesus be seen in you …
- I go worship the Lord o … I go shout Halleluyah …
- It is a good thing to praise Jesus … walking in the Light of God …
- It’s not an easy road we ‘re traveling to Heaven …
- 5. Jesus … remember me … when You come into Your Kingdom …
What is recommended for you to stay healthy? Eat good food, sleep well, get some exercise, do some work, socialise, do some good and all that? All right then? However, God wants me to tell you that all of that will not necessarily keep you healthy overall. You need to be spiritually healthy for you to be alright.
The Bible says bodily exercise profits a little bit but spiritual exercise profits in all things. In the New International Version of the Holy Bible, bodily exercise is likened unto physical training whilst spiritual exercise is likened unto godliness. Pure and simple.
Neither physical nor spiritual exercise is easy. It takes effort and often sacrifices to engage meaningfully in either. But the bottom line for a living healthy man or woman or child is to engage in spiritual exercise.
1 Timothy 4:8
8For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.
We all have a fair idea of how to keep physically trained or exercised. You exercise; you walk or do other things, activities where you will sweat. Some do this moderately whilst to others it becomes excessive. Generally moderate exercise is recommended.
However, with spiritual exercise it ‘s a different ball game. There is never too much; in fact, the more the better. This begins with a relationship with God, which begins by totally and absolutely submitting to His Will. It ‘s not an easy thing at all to give up your will to another person. Yet, in God ‘s authority structure, things work better and are more effective when we give up our will to each other and or to the one in authority over us.
Our Lord Jesus Christ whilst He walked the earth gave up His Will to the Father with whom He Is One. He admonishes His Church to give up her will to Him. He admonishes wives to give up their will to their husbands; but encourages husbands not to ill-treat their wives by beating them or being too harsh with them. God understands human failures and knows that people with authority are not always fair. Learning fairness is part of staying spiritually healthy for people in authority.
Living holy is a most essential aspect of godliness or spiritual exercise. How do we live holy? We learn the Will of God and put same to practice. We have to think about what we think, speak and do and align with the Word of God. Therefore, we must judge ourselves based on the Word of God which is living.
Daniel 1:5, 8-16
5 The king assigned them a daily amount of food and wine from the king’s table. They were to be trained for three years, and after that they were to enter the king’s service.
8 But Daniel resolved not to defile himself with the royal food and wine, and he asked the chief official for permission not to defile himself this way. 9 Now God had caused the official to show favor and sympathy to Daniel, 10 but the official told Daniel, “I am afraid of my lord the king, who has assigned your [c] food and drink. Why should he see you looking worse than the other young men your age? The king would then have my head because of you.”
11 Daniel then said to the guard whom the chief official had appointed over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah, 12 “Please test your servants for ten days: Give us nothing but vegetables to eat and water to drink. 13 Then compare our appearance with that of the young men who eat the royal food, and treat your servants in accordance with what you see.” 14 So he agreed to this and tested them for ten days.
15 At the end of the ten days they looked healthier and better nourished than any of the young men who ate the royal food. 16 So the guard took away their choice food and the wine they were to drink and gave them vegetables instead.
When the children of Israel were led out of Egypt by Moses God kept them healthy and there was not one feeble one amongst them. Their clothes did not wear out either. That is a measure of spiritual health unparalleled. What did they do though? They rebelled against God and paid dearly with their lives for it.
As children of God we are to watch our lives very closely; including what we eat, wear and how we live; we are to watch our associations too because bad company corrupts good character according to the Word of God. You know drinking and smoking is not good for you, then don ‘t do it, if you already do ask God for the strength to give up. You know certain foods are not good for your health, then cut them out of your diet. You are to take care of the Lord‘s temple (your body).
You are to stay away from idle talk and not allow foul obscene words to flow from your lips at any time. Many of us love to talk dirty and swear and curse. You are to live a clean life devoid of any sexual immorality. Keep your thoughts, words and deeds clean and healthy. Love your neighbor as yourself. Love even your enemy as God recommends. There is so much we must do to live a holy life and keep spiritually healthy. Yet these things are difficult for us because we are so much steeped in sin.
You are to dress responsibly in a Godly manner that you know will please God not to please yourself and do away with worldliness. Try this and watch your confidence grow. If you haven ‘t tried it then you cannot know the value of the type of Godliness the Bible recommends. Eat healthy, drink healthy, think/talk/act healthy. Put this to practice all the time and watch your life change for the better. Guaranteed.
